Entz at Magdalen is pretty different from the stereotypical 'Oxford' entertainment - which, we have to add, doesn't exist anywhere here.
Your three Entz reps work with a large budget to bring the biggest and best events to the JCR, from bops to open mic nights, as well as Batwillow Palooza, our annual Trinity outdoor party to round off the year.
Magdalen bops are pretty exciting. We hold them in the OKB (college bar) three times a term, and they usually last until midnight, at which point everyone heads to a local club (where the Entz reps have usually arranged discounted entry and drinks). We play a selection of popular music and cheesy hits, and Nick the barman always creates an innovative cocktail to keep the party going.
We choose a theme, coordinate a menu, decorate the hall then you turn up in 'formal fancy dress'. Last year we held a James Bond and a Superhero formal, with post-formal entertainment including free cocktails and themed quizzes, and the 2014 Entz team have been making noises about equally exciting themes...
OPEN MIC NIGHTS
With such a thriving musical community, the Magdalen open mic nights couldn't not be good. Organised in coalition with the Music Society, come along to see students performing songs from Eminem's 'Stan' to Aladdin's 'Prince Ali', as well as a few musicians who have written songs of their own.
The highlight of the year - Magdalen's biggest outdoor party. Taking place in 7th week of Trinity, it chases away any lingering thoughts of exams. Last year boasted a silent disco, hog roast, bouncy castle and an open bar for ticket holders. Not to be missed.
The Entz team put on a selection of other Entz events throughout the year, ensuring that there are sufficient alternative events for those who aren't so keen on bops and clubs - dining out trips, comedy nights and more.
